Peru Mauser Model 1909 DWM 1910 7x57mm Mauser Bolt Action Rifle

Description

The Mauser rifle for sale is a 1910 dated M.1909 made for the Uruguayan military by DWM Berlin. What a gem of a find. Please read the history section to gain some context as to what a unique find this Mauser is. The 1909 Mausers were commonly made for Argentina by DWM and the Argentines. Eventually some were sold to Peru, Dominican and Costa Rica but those were models made by Mauser. Keep in mind these guns were also made in 7.65×53 or converted to 7×57. However due to the markings this appears to be an ORIGINAL 7mm Mauser barrel along with a DWM manufacturer marking. Production year being 1910. This rifle is in very good condition. The gun does not retain much bluing finish and infact looks polished, which was something done on many of the South American rifles. The stock is in great shape and retains much of its stock with nice beautiful tiger stripes on one side (See photos) We also note that there is not much damage or wear on the stock from use and transportation. The barrel is in good condition, we noted good lands and grooves but some light pitting has formed. This should clean up with a brush and some solvents. The bolt and bolt face look great and the action still feels smooth and strong. LOW 4 Digit serial number, many parts are matching but it is not an all matching serial number gun. Uruguayan Mausers are some of the rarest Mauser rifles in the world.

History

The Mauser Model 1909 was an Argentine Mauser derivative of the Gewehr 98 pattern bolt action rifle made originally in Germany and later on in Argentina. This Mauser rifle shares much in common with the Gewehr 1898 long rifle however there is some differences. The famous German Lange Visier sight also nicknamed “Gew 98 Rollercoaster sight) was replaced by a simpler tangent leaf sight.. The Argentines wanted the rifle to utilize some old material from their previous service rifle and so the M1909 could actually accept the same bayonet of the Mauser 1891. German manufacturer Deutsche Waffen und Munitionsfabriken was the main producer of this rifle and manufactured around 100,000 units for delivery to Argentina. Argentina also began producing this rifle themselves under Fabrica Militar de Armas Portaliles. These rifles served a long service life from 1905 when they were conceived all the way till the early 1960s when they were replaced by the Argentine military with the FN FAL. This specific model of Mauser rifle was only used by four nations; Argentina, Paraguay, Peru and the Dominican Republic. A small sum of the 1909 rifles and carbines had their crests removed and sold to Paraguay for service during the Chaco War. Paraguay was supported through Argentina and Italy and Boliva was supported by Czechoslovakia as they sent their world famous VZ-24 rifle to face off against the 1909 Mauser. This Mauser rifle helped Paraguay win in the end. These rifles were also used in the conflict against the US. The Dominican Republican was occupied by the US as part of the Banana Wars in which the Dominicans used some of these Mausers for service. The rifle was exclusively chambered in 7.65x53mm Mauser Peru however converted their rifles into 7mm Mauser also known as 7x57mm. Mauser also produced this rifle pattern commercially for the Peruvians  The M.1909 featured three variants. The standard rifle, the cavalry carbine, and a rare sniper rifle variant that could mount a scope and used a bent bolt handle.
