Remington UMC .38 AMU Round
This ammunition is intended for collecting purposes. Every effort has been made to accurately identify the caliber, manufacturer, and year using SAMMI, CIP, and Historical sources. As is often the case with older ammunition head case markings and stamps may vary from those on record. It is also possible that the original ammunition may have been altered or created as a hand reload at some point in the past.
Although this ammunition may be a live and functioning cartridge it is not considered safe to fire by current firearms standards. Using this ammunition in an antique, vintage, or historical firearm could result in a catastrophic failure causing damage to the firearm and possible injury or death to the user.
Under no circumstances should any attempt be made to fire this ammunition.

History
The .38 AMU cartridge was developed around 1960 by the Army Marksmanship Unit at Fort Benning, despite some sources incorrectly citing 1964. Initially produced by Remington-UMC using modified .38 Special cases, it later saw serial production with a dedicated “REM-UMC 38 AMU” headstamp, mostly in nickeled-brass cases. The cartridge, which is semi-rimmed rather than rimless, was manufactured by Remington-UMC, Federal, and Western—the latter branding it as the .38 Special Super-Match Mid-Range semi-Rimmed.
