History

In 1895, the U.S. Navy adopted the rimless .236 U.S. Navy cartridge for use in the Lee Straight Pull rifle after testing various 6 mm designs. The rifle and cartridge saw limited service from 1895 to 1907 before being phased out due to evolving military needs. Ammunition was produced by W.R.A.Co. and U.M.C., and also appeared in the DWM catalog as .425A. Besides the Navy rifle, the cartridge was used in Colt Mark I machine guns and some hunting rifles. The U.S. government also ordered 30,000 rounds to be produced and tested in machine gun trails for the Colt MKI machine gun. it was adopted in rimless.
