This ammunition is intended for collecting purposes. Every effort has been made to accurately identify the caliber, manufacturer, and year using SAMMI, CIP, and Historical sources. As is often the case with older ammunition head case markings and stamps may vary from those on record. It is also possible that the original ammunition may have been altered or created as a hand reload at some point in the past.
Although this ammunition may be a live and functioning cartridge it is not considered safe to fire by current firearms standards. Using this ammunition in an antique, vintage, or historical firearm could result in a catastrophic failure causing damage to the firearm and possible injury or death to the user.

History
The 6.5×53mmR (also correctly known as 6.5×53.5mmR), or .256 Mannlicher, is a late 19th-century rimmed centerfire military rifle cartridge developed by Steyr-Mannlicher. It is believed to have been based on an experimental 6.5 mm rimmed design by Luigi Scotti, provided by the Italian government in 1890. Mannlicher’s Model 1891 rifle chambered in this cartridge was adopted by Romania in 1892 (as the M1893) and by the Netherlands in 1895 (as the Geweer M. 95). The cartridge was used by Romania until 1938 and the Netherlands until 1945, with Dutch ammunition produced in both brass and steel cases depending on the era. Portugal’s Navy also adopted it for their Model 1896 rifle, though it was soon replaced and sent to colonial forces. Portuguese-made ammunition (designated “M96”) continued production into the 1930s. The 6.5×53mmR is the original rimmed Mannlicher cartridge and a direct precursor to the rimless 6.5×54mm Mannlicher–Schönauer, with which it shares identical ballistic performance.
