Universal M1 Carbine .30 Carbine 18″ Rifle 15RD Magazine

The M1 Carbine made by Universal was the most produced commercial carbine variant of the M1 carbine. About 426,000 units were produced by Universal in Florida from 1961 until 1986. Universal made these for 25 years and outlasted many other commercial carbine companies. Universal came to be in June of 1961 in Hialeah Florida. The first rifle produced appears to be April 1, 1962. Universal introduced a slide action 44 magnum carbine along with their 1:1 M1 carbines. Over the years the Universal carbines were known to change over the years changes are noted around 27,600 and at 40,500 units. Universal originally used trigger housings produced during WWII for GI carbines. Eventually Universal began producing an aluminum trigger housing with similar specification to the GI surplus housing. The desing was later changed again by thickening the side walls and the machining process. Since aluminum cannot be parkerized or blued, Universal would paint these components black. Universal even made some of their M1 carbines as pistols with shorter barrels, pistol grips, and no stocks. In the beginning it was known that Universals used many surplus components and would be 1:1 interchangeable with surplus parts. Eventually this changed when Universal ran out of reserves of surplus parts. Universal began making their own parts and they were NOT interchangeable with the surplus components. One major change was going from a single spring to a double spring.
