Details:

Walther PP Super Pistol chambered in 9×18 Ultra (9×18 Police) Made in West Germany by Walther.

Description

The Walther PP Super is a unique version of Walther’s PP Series. It was designed and released in 1972 and was an all-steel PP chambered in 9x18mm Ultra. This pistol was originally intended to be exclusively used as a police pistol. Like many others it is a blowback operated double-action pistol.  9x19mm Parabellum historically has been and still is the standard service cartridge for most German police forces. This made it hard for the 9×18 Ultra to become popular. Only 2,000 units were ever adopted by the German police forces in the 1970s and because of this Walther stopped producing this variant in 1979!

9x18mm Ultra is a very interesting cartridge it is also referred to as 9mm Police or 9×18 Police and should not be confused with the Soviet 9×18 Makarov cartridge. There is debate whether or not the 9×18 Ultra was inspired by the success of the 9×18 Makarov in the Soviet Union. However, the actual 9x18mm Ultra originated in 1936 in Nazi Germany and was designed with original intention to be used by the Luftwaffe. It was not officially adopted by the Luftwaffe and was reintroduced in 1972. This case was actually what was used to design the 9×18 Makarov and like the Makarov is described as and intermediate between 9×19 Parabellum and 9×17 Kurtz (380). However due to this pistols load data its pressure and velocity is closer to the 380 than 9mm Luger. The Walther PP Super was the most popular pistol in this caliber however SIG Sauer, Mauser, and Benelli also made some pistols in 9×18 Ultra.

9x18mm Ultra is .355″ caliber.

9×18 Makarov is .365″ caliber.

Do not interchange the ammunition a Walther PP Super can ONLY be fired with 9mm Police (9×18 ULTRA)
