History

The FN Model 1924 and Model 1930 series are Belgian Mauser-pattern bolt-action rifles manufactured by Fabrique Nationale (FN) for military and international contracts. The Model 1924 featured an intermediate-length action and was produced in rifle, short-rifle, and carbine configurations in several Mauser calibers. After 1932, FN transitioned to the standard-length Model 1930, which was offered in a broader range of chamberings and configurations. Collectors value these rifles for their Mauser Gewehr 98 lineage, Belgian manufacture, contract variations, and international military history. Model 1930 short rifles are particularly notable for their 585 mm barrels, which differ slightly from the 600 mm barrels used on comparable Kar98k carbines. A significant contract was supplied to Venezuela in the mid-1930s, consisting of approximately 16,500 rifles and carbines chambered in 7mm Mauser. A small number of Venezuelan rifles were produced with longer barrels for Olympic-team training. Today, markings, configuration, barrel length, chambering, and originality are important considerations when identifying and evaluating an FN Model 1924 or Model 1930 for collector purposes.

Condition

For sale is an FN Model 24/30 rifle chambered in 7mm Mauser. This FN is in great shape for its age. The rifle appears to have been professionally refinished likely by the arsenal that took it back in. As far as refinish it looks like the stock was recoated and the bluing on some parts was redone. (not all parts appear to be refinished like the barrel bands or trigger guard). Overall the condition of this rifle is very good condition. In terms of imperfections we note a small chip on the top handguard near the receiver on the right hand side. There is a notable pressure mark on the bottom the stock and again another on the left side near where the handguard meets the fore-end of the stock. Aside from that the stock looks fantastic and has a very interesting wood grain. Some finish loss and patina on the barrel bands but the exterior metal finish looks great. We note some pitting damage on the bolt where the cocking handle is. The bolt is intact and appears fine. We noted some frosting in the bore but we do not note any active rust, looks like that was neutralized. Some carbon fouling present but the lands and grooves, crown and chamber all look very solid. Unsure if the gun is “matching” it appears only the receiver has serial numbers, this is not uncommon for some export contract guns even with FN.
