History
The Mosin Nagant and its 7.62x54R cartridge are the longest serving small arms to date. The original Model 1891 was issued to Russian military as an infantry rifle and was continued into the development of the USSR for the Red Army. Many changes were made from the Mosin’s initial launch until the start of WWI and like other militaries at the turn of the 20th century the Spitzer bullet was a big influence. In 1930 the most prolific and well known version of the Mosin was fabricated. A cylindrical receiver was produced replacing the early “hex” style receivers of the original 1891 rifle. The front sight would also receive a protected hood. Many of these rifles took the former Dragoon model and would face lift them to the 1891/30 standard. Like many militaries around this time the rifles were simple and easy to face lift so it made sense economically to do this. M91/30 rifles are famous for being converted into sniper rifles  those rifles would have bent bolt handles and 3.5×21 PU scopes. The Mosin utilizes 5 round stripper clips and was intended for use with 147 grain bullets. Mosin rifles could be purchased in the USSR after the war for hunting rifles (so long as the bayonet was removed) Millions of rifles were produced for both World Wars and so the Mosin was distributed all over the world. Even in modern times, there have been sitings of reserve M91/30 rifles being used in the early stages of the Russia Ukraine conflict. The rifle saw use in many famous conflicts included and not limited to:  Cretan Revolt of 1897, Boxer Rebellion of 1899, Russo Japan War of 1904, Russian Revolution of 1905, First Balkan War and Second Balkan War, World War I, Finnish Civil War, The Russian Civil War, Chinese Civil War, Spanish Civil War, Winter War, World War II, Korean War, Hungarian Revolution, Angolan Civil War, Yemeni Civil War, The Vietnam War, Soviet Afghan War, War in Iraq, Russian Invasion of Ukraine.
Condition
The Mosin Nagant 91/30 pictured is the rifle for sale. This Mosin is in overall very good condition for its age. All parts appear to be matching including the original issued spike bayonet (Barrel/Receiver, bolt, butt plate, bayonet, magazine plate) The condition is very good and we do suspect a factory refinish. Expect some minor wear on the wood and some minor surface rust. We recommend some oils that could be used to touch up and clean the rifle if you choose to do such. The bore is in okay shape. We noted pretty good rifling still intact but the bore was a bit dark and some pitting is present. A brass brush and oil should clean most of the fouling and pitting up. The action feels quite nice for a Mosin.
