This vintage barrel insert is labeled – 1 Einstecklauf für selbstladepistole Caliber 7.65 m/m Modell Schw. Munit.20.
Translates to – Insert barrel for self-loading pistol. The Caliber 7.65 (7.65x21mm para / .30 Luger) would apply to any number of models. Given the Modell has been typed in as “Schw.” this could be abbreviated German for Schweiz meaning Switzerland.
This insert fit the Swiss Luger but protruded into the chamber by about a quarter inch. It could have been intended for a longer barreled model of Swiss Luger or with the correct BB insert may work as it was intended. It is also possible this was meant for a Mauser or Walther pistol as there were a wide variety in use during this time.
There is no marking on the box indicating maker but the packaging is very similar to the Lothar Walther .22lr barrel inserts for the Walther PPK and other pistols. While this is most likely a Lothar Walther made barrel insert it is possible this could have been made by Lienhard or Müller as both those manufacturers made similar products.
This barrel insert will allow for the shooting of 4mm lead BBs from a correctly fitted 7.65mm Pistol, most likely Swiss Luger.
These barrel inserts as well as conversion kits have been produced since the early 1900s for a variety of firearms including the Walther, Luger, Swiss Schmidt Rubin Rifles, and SIG pistols. These kits are highly prized by collectors and valued by shooters wishing to practice at a lower cost.
This barrel insert kit appears to be complete. It is difficult to evaluate as comparable examples are often seen with either less or more parts. These kits did get used so it is very common the prior owner would lose parts or add tools as needed. What is shown in the photos is what will be received.
This kit includes:
1 – Box (worn & torn)
1 – Cleaning rod
1 – Barrel insert
The barrel features a good bore with crisp rifling, some wear, fouling, and signs of minor pitting
