This Martini-Henry rifle in .455 Cal (.577/450 Martini–Henry) is marked ENFIELD 1861 II. It is very well marked with the correct proofs of the period however the rear sight numbers are in Arabic. Given the Martini-Henry wasn’t being made in 1861 and not seeing the cartouches and marks on the butt stock our conclusion is this is actually a Khyber Pass copy.

The Martini-Henry and many other British pattern rifles and pistols were widely copied in the Khyber Pass Region using whatever materials were on hand. The quality of these arms ranges from very good to extremely poor.

This rifle appears to have been one of the better copies. The proof marks look correct and do not have the misspellings or mark errors common to many of the lesser copies. This rifle does not have the usual cartouche/marks on the butt stock.

This rifle is in fair to good condition. The wood shows minor dings and scratches and there is one minor crack / chip on the left side near receiver. The finish shows only minor wear.

The barrel, barrel bands, rear sight, and block have almost complete finish loss. There is some rust staining speckled throughout. The bore is good with crisp rifling however there is substantial fouling and pitting. The chamber shows some minor surface rust.

All parts appear present and mechanically this functions as it should. It has not been test fired by us.

This rifle includes the cleaning rod which has some rust staining.

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD THIS RIFLE BE FIRED.

This is, as best as we can determine, a Khyber Pass copy of the Martini-Henry. These copies are infamous for their wide range of quality. Though this is a good looking copy it would be extremely dangerous to attempt to fire. Do NOT attempt to fire this rifle.
