Peruvian Mauser 1909 7.65x53mm Argentine (7.65 Mauser) Mauser Oberndorf

Peru began receiving Mauser Model 1909s between 1910 and 1914. These Mausers would be chambered in the 7.65x53mm Argentine and were closer built to the actual Gewehr 98 rifle as opposed to the Mauser 1909’s that Argentina would receive. The biggest feature is the Lange Visier sight (roller coaster sight). The only major differences between a Peru contract rifle and the actual German GEW98 is the caliber, larger receiver sing, and shorter breech.  The stripper clip guide is also modified to help use Model 1891 stripper clips and there is a longer hammer.  These rifles were first made to fire round nose bullets but would be upgraded later to use Spitzer bullets like the rest of the world. These rifles saw use in the Leticia incident and the Ecuadorian Peruvian War. After WWII, in 1945 these Mauser rifles would be replaced by American made weapons and sold to the civilian markets around the globe. Only some rifles would stay in Peru as parade rifles.

The rifle pictured is the rifle for sale. This Peruvian Mauser 1909 is in excellent condition. The stock is in great shape and full of finish evenly throughout the wood. We do not suspect a refinish and there is no major damage to report. Just very minimal wear from service and transport. The bluing condition is also excellent, a majority of the blued finish is intact and even throughout the rifle. Again minimal surface wear on contact parts like the front barrel band but overall this blue finish looks wonderful. The polished steel parts also look good and clean with only a little minor patina forming. This could be eliminated with oils and solvents. The bore is mint. We note as close to a 5/5 bore as possible. Clean with sharp rifling throughout the barrel, we could not identify rust or pits. It is certainly used but it does not look like it was shot much at all. The chamber and crown look great. The bolt, bolt face and action look and feel great as well the action is very smooth.

Serial numbers that match: Receiver, barrel, stock, magazine plate, trigger guard housing, rear sight, bolt take down.
Serial number that did not match: bolt assembly. (May have been this way from the start, we have no way to known if it was replaced or not and this rifle does not look like it had a hard life.)
