History

SIG Sauer P226:
The SIG P226 was developed in 1980. Schweizerische Industrie Gesellschaft (S.I.G.) had joined forces with the German manufacturer J.P. Sauer and Sohn to form the famous SIG Sauer P220. The P220 was the first SIG Sauer pistol commercially sold on the US Market. Originally SIG marketed it through Browning as the Browning BDA (Browning Double Action). The SIG Sauer P220 was a refinement of the Petter-Browning design that influenced the SIG P210. This new 22X series utilized a locked breech design that was pioneered by SIG Sauer. The P226 utilized the large frame size that the original SIG P220 had not. SIG Sauer equipped the SIG P226 with a double stack magazine well which increased the magazine capacity from the P220’s 8 round single stack 9x19mm magazine to a 15 round double stack 9x19mm magazine on the P226. This was oftentimes the biggest critique with the original P220 as the frame was very large, but the pistol could only carry 8 rounds. This may be why SIG went on to develop the 226 and make the rechamber the 220 into the larger 45ACP and 10mm calibers. The SIG Sauer P226 went into service in 1985 and is still used by militaries and law enforcement agencies to this day. At one point the SIG Sauer P226 was made by all three SIG locations: Switzerland, Germany and USA. Many nations like China and Serbia went on to copying and cloning the P226 as it had such a desired design and function. After many years of success and being loved around the world the SIG P226 comes in four different calibers now 9x19mm, 40 S&W, .357 SIG, and .22 Long rifle. The SIG P228 and P229 are direct derivatives of the SIG P226 design and can be seen as smaller compact versions. The SIG P226 was bid in the US military XM9 trials. Saco Defense from Finland was importing these pistols under a different name and the SIG had great results during the trial period. Eventually SIG Arms INC now SIG Sauer USA took over the importation of these models and the rest is history!

Condition

Appears to be factory new.

This model was not sold directly from the SIG factory to us but based on the minimal wear, lack of carbon/copper we believe it has spent its entire life in the case. There are some very light surface scratches on the box from Transporation and handling, but the condition of this set is incredible. It was likely only fired during testing.
