Original Smith and Wesson .40 Cal Sigma Pistol

The Smith & Wesson Sigma (SW series), introduced in 1994, was the company’s first polymer-framed pistol line. It gained notoriety for its striking similarity to Glock designs, leading to a patent infringement lawsuit and settlement with Glock. The Sigma featured a pre-set striker firing mechanism and was chambered primarily in .40 S&W and 9×19mm, making it one of the earliest pistols designed specifically for .40 S&W. Sub-compact versions in .380 ACP, 9mm, and limited runs in .357 SIG were also produced, with the .380 ACP variant using a different blowback system and ZAMAK slide. The Sigma line was eventually replaced in 2010 by the improved Smith & Wesson SD series.
