This is a U.S. Army M1910 Mattock with Canvas Carrier. The handle is dated for 1944. The maker and year of the carrier have faded and can’t be distinguished. The Mattock is only stamped with “U.S.” on the pick indicating this may have been a WWI era mattock married to a 1944 made handle.
The mattock is in good condition. There is paint loss and wear at the both ends. No visible rust. The wood handle shows wear, minor dings/scratches, and paint loss. No evident cracking or splitting in the wood.
The Canvas OD Green carrier is in very good condition. Stitching is solid throughout. There are a few minor wear through spots on the pick side. Some minor stains. Carrier has the original belt hooks.

U.S. (at top handle loop) , A manufacturer is on the inside but is very faded. Possible letters BRO
Mattock is stamped: U.S. on side of pick.
Wood Handle is labeled: U.S. DIA. CALK.44 N.H.M.
