History
The enfield No.2 is a British “top-break” revolver chambered in .38 S&W. The revolver was manufactured from 1930 until 1957. This would have been the standard sidearm for the British for WWII along with the Webley Mk. IV and the U.S. Smith & Wesson Victory all chambered in the same caliber. After WWI Britain decided that a smaller and lighter .38 caliber side arm with a heavy 200 grain bullet would be preferable to the previous .455 round. Smith and Wessons .38/200 was a popular round that fit that criteria at the time and Wesley & Scott and S&W submitted pistols. However, the British authorities chose to take the design from their government ran Royal Small Arms factory at Enfield. Hence, the No 2 Mk I was adopted in 1931 with the MK I variant being simplified for wartime production. Webley was angered by this and sued the British government for loss during the R&D process of their revolver, a lot of which went into influencing the Enfield design. Either way the Royal Small Arms Factory was not able to produce enough No .2 revolvers during the war and so the Webley Mk IV did receive a contract as well for the British Army.
Condition
Excellent condition – includes holster
This revolver is in fantastic shape for its age. We note well over 90% of the original bluing finish is still intact.
The grip panels are in great shape with no damage to report. The action still feels nice, smooth and strong on this revolver.
The bore is in great shape, shiny with good rifling and only some minor carbon fouling that would clean easily.
