Original West German production SIG P228 pistol in 9mm Luger. Includes original box.

The P.228 pictured is the pistol for sale.  What is very interesting about this West German P228 is it is proof coded KF – This would indicate 1995 but interestingly enough West Germany did not exist in 1995 as Germany was reunified in 1990. The reason this is possible is because the pistol was built prior to this date but was not proofed until 1995. While the pistol was not produced exactly on 1995 it was finally “born” once it was proofed. 

In 1988 SIG introduced the P228. The P228 was SIG’s answer to a shorter more compact P220/P226 model pistol. This pistol was revolutionary for its time and was a big leap forward for SIG. In many ways it is the successor to the P225 pistol since it gave the user a compact option with a larger magazine capacity.

When the United Stated military adopted SIG’s P228 it was designated the M11. The USA still has some M11s in service and the P228 is still in service for many military and police forces throughout the world. At one point the FBI was even using the P228 pistol.  Of those who are replacing the M11 SIG has now pushed to replace these units with the M18 variant of the P320. The P228 was only produced in 9x19mm and can use 15 & 20 round P226 magazines. The P228 was eventually phased out on the civilian market due to the 9mm variant of the P229 which was seen as an upgrade to the 228 because the slide would be milled from stainless steel versus the 228’s more traditional folded carbon steel slide. The P229 also had two more caliber options which were popular at the time (.40 S&W and .357 SIG)

The SIG pictured is the item for sale. This P228 is in excellent condition and does not appear to be have used much. This pistol includes an original SIG Sauer P228 box and will ship with 2 magazines. The metal finish is excellent and the majority off the finish is intact, only some small wear by the front sight. The polymer grips are intact and in excellent condition. The bore is also in excellent condition, shiny with strong riffling throughout the barrel and a clean chamber. The action feels nice and strong.
