Swiss M 1842 Pioneer – Engineer sawback sword (Faschinenmesser) made by Gebrueder Weyersberg in Solingen Germany.
Roman style one piece ribbed brass grip with round pommel. Brass straight crossguard with 2 round finished quillons. Quillons have 5 rings. Crossguard is marked “ S ”.
Steel sawback blade measures 20 1/4″ up to the brass hilt.Blade point is rounded/dulled. Both sides of blade show substantial scratching. There is pitting on both sides of blade. All teeth on saw present.
Scabbard has no markings. Brass ferrule at end of scabbard moderate tarnish and small dings. The scabbard stitching has decayed and separated from the middle up to about two inches from the top.
