Waffenfabrik Bern manufactured Swiss M.1878 Revolver 10.4mm Centerfire. The Model 1878 fired a .41 caliber lead bullet, weighing 193grs at approximately 600fps.

The Swiss M.1878 Revolver was the successor to the M. 1872 revolver. That revolver in of itself was the Swiss Army’s first transition from muzzle loading pistols to something with a larger capacity. Colonel Rudolf Schmidt had been a key player in the development of both revolver models. In the beginning the Swiss had Belgium create these revolvers and produce them in rimfire configuration. Near the end of this pistols service life the Swiss made them themselves and had already converted the rimfire units to centerfire. This would be one of the last foreign firearms that the Swiss ever adopted. In 1878 they successfully replaced the 1872 model with the 1878. These revolvers would be the first produced domestically for Swiss Army service. These pistols would be used by Calvary forces. A lighter version of this model was planned by Schmidt’s later design the M.1882 made the plan for any modifications to the 1878 obsolete. It is estimated 5,500-6,000 models were produced.

Good condition.

Most of the bluing is not intact, some patina/surface wear but is pretty minimal.

The bore has really nice sharp crisp rifling with some use and wear present. Slight surface rust from black powder but should clean easily.
