This is an original surplus U.S. Army ammo chest for the Browning Automatic Rifle (B.A.R. M-1918 A2 MACHINE RIFLE M-1 Browning Automatic).
It was used to carry .30-06 B.A.R. magazines. The chest is divided into three compartments that would each hold five magazines for a total capacity of fifteen magazines.
This ammo chest is in very good to excellent condition. The metal shows wear, scuffs, and scratches yet most of the paint is solid. Most wear and paint loss is at bottom and on the hinge. There is very slight surface rust at the bottom seams.
The interior is complete with the original dividers and the original Wool/Horse Hair lining/padding in the lid and on the bottom.
The leather carry handle is intact but the stitching has some fraying. There is a crack developing near the middle. Given the age and dryness of the leather the handle could tear if carrying full weight.
Dimensions:Â 16.75″ x 6.25″ x 3.75″
