This Lee-Enfield No 1 Mark III is a .303 British that has been converted into a .22lr Training Rifle. The rifle is marked 1941 for original year and with “B” indicating a dispersal. It has been refinished at least once, most likely when it was converted, and as a result many of the markings usually found are covered up or illegible. Parts do not appear matching numbers and the stock may or may not be original to when it was first made.
This Mark III .22lr trainer is in good condition. The stock has no cracks or splits but there are numerous dings and scratches. The butt stock has had some carving into it including a number “4”. The wood finish is very good throughout with some rich color but there is blackening behind the breech and at the ends of the butt.
The bore is good, 3./5 with crisp rifling but does show some leading. The bolt is good but finish loss is almost complete and there is some minor rust staining. The bolt face is clean with minor wear. The finish on bayonet lug, barrel bands, receiver, and trigger is very good showing only minimal wear. The receiver action is slightly stiff but mechanically functions as it should as do the trigger and safety. The magazine has finish loss and wear and does not have the spring and follower. This is common for the .22lr conversions where the magazine is used to collect spent brass.
All hardware (screws, sling mounts, etc) appears present. Bolt and receiver match numbers but other parts may be a mix from other rifles during conversion.
