This is a hard to come by set of Swiss M1917/38 Flare Guns (Raketenpistol) with carrying case. This set includes the wood grip model, the bakelite grip model, and a wooden case with metal top. These flare guns are 34mm and can fire the appropriate flare as well as chalk rounds. Both guns are in working order.
Condition
Wood Grip Model – Very good. Finish on the metal is 90-95%. There is minor wear present as well as very minor signs of pitting on the left side. No apparent rust staining. The wood grips are excellent, no cracks or splits and minimal wear. Includes leather sling strap which is in good condition. The bore is immaculate, extremely shiney, and does not appear to have ever had more than a test round through it. This model was made by Waffenfabrik Neuhausen.
Bakelite Grip Model – Very Good. Finish on the metal 95%. Minor wear in spots. No apparent rust staining. The bakelite grips are very good with only minor wear. Includes canvas sling strap in good condition. The bore is immaculate, extremely shiney, and does not appear to have ever had more than a test round through it. This model was made by Waffenfabrik Bern.
Carrying Case – Very Good. Case is wood with a metal cover over the top wood. Case shows wear with finish loss on the sides. The metal top shows wear and some scratches but no rust. Hinges have no rust. Leather straps to secure latch are good.
Overall this set is in very good condition. The external wear on the Flare Guns was most likely caused by movement of the case over time since the condition of the bores shows little evidence of use. These bores are just incredibly bright with no apparent sign of wear, abrasion, or residue.
Note on operation. Flare Gun must be set to Safe to then open by moving the trigger guard forward. All parts appear present and both function mechanically as they should. These Flare Guns have not been test fired by us.
