Description

This is a U.S. Army Airborne Paratrooper M1942 Jump Jacket and includes two pairs of M1942 Jump Pants.  None of the items are named (marked with specific Paratrooper’s name) however they have all been tagged with the name/address of the soldier they belonged too.  The jacket and pants match for one soldier.  The second pair of pants are tagged to a different soldier.  According to the tags these were issued to a member of:

 

101st ABN DIV

517th RCT

596th PCHT. ENGR. CO.

 

These would have been worn by a member of the 517th Parachute Regimental Combat Team which was formed in 1943 by combining with the 596th Parachute Combat Engineer Company and 460th Parachute Field Artillery Battalion. In looking up the name/address on the tags (redacted in photos) he was a Major in the US Army during WWII and passed away in 2000 at the age of 86.

 

There are no patches or insignia on the jacket.  The jacket is a size 42R.  The pants matching to the jacket have had the label removed but faded print shows waist 34 inseam 3?.  The matching jacket and pants are both numbered 9286.  The second pair of pants is size 34×32 and has the original maker label.  The Jacket has no label.

 

Condition:

 

Jacket: Number 9286, is very good.  There is minor wear, fading spots, and general dust/dirt from storage.  The metal pocket snaps all show wear on all the snap stud/posts have oxidation (green or orange rust).  The stitching is excellent throughout.  There is one tear on the right top pocket.  The jacket still has its belt.  The belt buckle shows minor rust and wear.

 

Pants:  Number 9286, is very good to excellent.  Inside maker label is missing.  There are no rips or tears.  All buttons are present.  The metal pocket snaps all show wear on all the snap stud/posts have oxidation (green or orange rust). Minor wear and dust from storage.

 

Pants: No number, is good.  Inside maker label is present.  There are no rips or tears.  All buttons are present.  The metal pocket snaps all show wear on all the snap stud/posts have oxidation (green or orange rust). Minor wear and dust from storage.  There is some black staining on the back legs possibly from grease or oil.
