This Luger P06 pistol is chambered in 7.65x21mm Parabellum aka 7.65 Luger aka .30 Luger. This was made by DWM (Deutsche Waffen und Munitionsfabriken) in 1918 as what appears to be an artillery model. The front top receiver has the flat cut and it would have had a stock lug on bottom rear of grip. The stock lug was expertly removed and all that remains are two small cut in lines where the lug once was. The barrel is 4 inch and marked with a Swiss Cross (rework proof) bottom rear barrel and a Swiss Pressure Proof pass on top rear barrel. Most importantly the barrel does not have a serial number at the bottom rear barrel strongly suggesting a re-barrel.

This pistol was imported from Switzerland and given the barrel length and markings was most likely completed as a Swiss Rework for the civilian and police market. It doesn’t have any of the markings for Swiss Military, Swiss Police Contract, or “BUG” Commercial models. The Swiss did numerous variations on the 06 pattern from surplus military and commercial parts and many WWI Lugers were refurbished by DWM/BKIW in the 1920s-30s just for the Swiss commercial market.

Of further interest is that this pistol was personalized to “P. Forster” of “Zurich 9”. This could possibly be a number indicating a police precinct/unit and the holster that comes with this pistol is similarly marked with a “Zurich 9/48”. Whether that is a month/year designation or other designation is unknown but both pistol and holster match to “P. Forster”.

This pistol is in very good condition. The wood grip panels show very minimal wear and no chipping or cracking. The finish is about 75% with some spots of greater finish loss at side plate, front right receiver, and rear grip and safety. It is difficult to tell but this may have been a refinish from when it was reworked.  The bore is very good to excellent showing minimal wear and crisp rifling.

All external numbers are matching. The pistol has not been fully field stripped to confirm numbers on internal parts. It should be noted that the barrel does NOT have a serial number.

Mechanically the pistol functions as it should. This pistol has not been test fired by us.

This pistol includes one magazine, no serial number, with period correct wooden floor plate.

Also included is one holster. The holster is stamped with the same name as appears on the pistol. Holster condition is very good. Leather is supple with minimal wear. Stitching is solid. There is green oxidation on the rivets and flap stud that should clean off easily. Holster is Swiss, made in Bern, dated to 1907.
